Dept. of Health & Human Services, Business Coalition Launch Initiative to Reduce Health Disparities

Posted: March 22, 2008

According to AHA News Now, a newsletter of the American Hospital Association (AHA), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (U.S. DHHS) Office of Minority Health and the National Business Group on Health (NBGH) announced plans to launch a two-year initiative designed to foster business-community relationships that target racial and ethnic health disparities. As part of U.S. DHHS's National Partnership for Action, a federal effort to end health disparities, the initiative will encourage coordination among business and medical and public health groups to improve health care quality for minority populations. In addition, the initiative will establish a disparities advisory board composed of national health care leaders to advise the NBGH as it re-assesses the business case for addressing health disparities, identifies best practices for eliminating disparities within the workforce and develops a toolkit to help employers implement those strategies ( AHA News Now , 2/11/08; NBGH release , 2/11/08).
